Parents choice for the chiropractic care of children

Among the several different types of patient cases seen every day, Concept Chiropractic and Rehab particularly achieves successful results treating infants, children and adolescents. With exception to when a child has an obvious problem, it can be challenging for parents to notice when a child has a spinal condition, which would further delay the necessary musculoskeletal evaluation by a trained chiropractic physician. There are some signs however which parents may look for which can be an indicator of a child with a spinal problem. Common indicators of spinal conditions may include the child's head constantly being tilted toward one shoulder; restricted range of motion of the head and/or neck; disturbed and inconsistent sleeping patterns where the child sleeps for an hour or two at the most. In addition to providing safe, long lasting treatment for back pain, neck pain, scoliosis, headaches and other common conditions that children respond favorably to, Concept Chiropractic and Rehab provides kids gentle, safe and effective care for several other conditions. Common childhood ailments such as Otitis Media (ear infections), asthma, infantile colic and ADHD are some of the more common problems for which parents bring their children to Concept Chiropractic and Rehab.

Most common chiropractic conditions affecting children

In a recent study, over 500 school children completed a survey and back pain was discovered to be the most prevalent symptom in more than 50%. Adolescents who engage in athletic activities experience a higher incidence of back issues due to the abnormal stress on the spine which is tied with most sports. The conservative and gentle approach Concept Chiropractic gives to children and adolescents is safe, effective, and focuses on eliminating the cause of their discomfort rather than trying to hide symptoms. Some of our happiest and most satisfied patients who suffer from back pain are children and adolescents.

Scoliosis is a condition of the in which there is a curvature of the spine which laterally deviates from the midline of the back. Juvenile scoliosis is a form of scoliosis existing in children aged 3 until they reach puberty which is about 10-12 years of age. Juvenile scoliosis can continue to progress in severity, and thus, monitoring every 3-6 months with radiographs is required. Continual monitoring is performed through adolescence because of the high risk of progression. If progression occurs without appropriate treatment severe spinal deformity and cardiovascular compromise can result.

Otitis media is an infection of the middle ear, usually secondary to an upper respiratory infection (URI). Anyone may suffer from Otitis Media; however it is most common in children up to 3 years of age. The most common complaint from children is severe, persistent earache. The earache is usually accompanied by various other symptoms including fever, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. Abnormalities and misalignments in the cervical spine may initiate muscular spasms as well as compromise the function of the nerves in this region which prevent proper drainage of the middle ear. By addressing the cervical spine and facilitating middle ear drainage, most Otitis Media cases can be safely and quickly treated.
