Spinal Conditions

The spinal column is one of the most complex regions of the human anatomy, comprising more than 25 small bones called vertebrae. The vertebrae are interconnected by muscles, tendons, and ligaments and are separated by intervertebral disks, which act as shock absorbers to protect the spine. Symptoms such as tingling and needles, numbness, or a burning sensation in the lower leg or foot may be a sign of damage to the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the back of the leg into the foot and brings sensation to the leg.
